FAQ

Does it smell like beef?

No. Properly rendered and filtered tallow is close to odourless. There's a faint warm note from the tallow and honey for the first minute or so, then nothing. We don't add fragrance or essential oils to cover it.

Will it clog my pores?

Tallow's fatty acid profile is close to human sebum, and most people — including plenty with acne-prone skin — find it sits well. It's still a rich cream, so if you're prone to congestion, start with night use and patch test along the jaw first.

Can I use it on a baby?

It's formulated for adult skin and we don't market it for infants. It's fragrance-free and short on irritants, but for babies, please ask your GP or maternal health nurse first.

Is it suitable for vegans?

No. Tallow is rendered beef fat and honey extract comes from bees. This is an animal-derived product and we'd rather say so plainly than bury it.

What size is the jar?

120g / 4oz — one size. That's roughly two to three months of once- or twice-daily use on the face.

How long does it keep?

Unopened, a jar is good for two years. Once opened, use it within twelve months.

Does it melt in an Australian summer?

It's an emulsion rather than a straight balm, so it holds its texture far better than a pure tallow product. Keep it out of direct sun and away from a hot car and it'll be fine.
